Welcome to the Dryden Community Center Cafe!
Dryden Preservation Corps Information!
Hello Preservation Corps members,
What a beautiful summer! Rain and Heat and Sun – (even though August did seem to come in July). And the food is coming in from the gardens and farms, and we are ready to help people preserve it for when the times get colder.
Here is the Preservation schedule. All sessions will be at the Café, starting at 6:30pm, and probably lasting two hours. Please bring a little cash to leave a donation for the Café for the use of the electricity. Several community members have stepped up to share their preservation skills with us. Look at this great line-up:
August 10th Tuesday - PEACHES. Cathy Wakeman will lead us. Please bring a quart jar with a ring. We will have new lids there. If you want to bring your own peaches that is fine, but Cathy will bring enough, and you can give her a donation to cover the cost.
If you want to do peaches but can’t make it on the 10th, Cathy will be canning in her home for the next few days and would be glad to have learners to help.
August 24th Tuesday - PESTO. Marie McCrae will lead us. We will be preparing pesto for freezing. If you have a freezer jar or container, bring it, other wise we will have some there. A message will be sent ahead of time about what else to bring.
September 8th Wedneday - DRYING AND DEHYDRATING FOODS Kerra Quinn will lead us. Kerra will be demonstrating various foods and the techniques required for preserving by drying. A message will be sent ahead of time about what to bring.
September 13th Monday - TOMATO SAUCE Marie will be leading us again. Bring a quart jar and a ring. Lids will be provided. Marie will explain how to prepare the tomatoes and cook down the sauce, and then we will work with sauce she has already cooked down.
September 14th Tuesday DRYDEN SOLUTIONS: How can we strengthen the Preservation network and get more learners involved?
September 22nd Wednesday - APPLESAUCE
There have been requests for PICKLING, and SALSA, and VEGETABLES. Do you know anyone who has this knowledge and might be willing to teach? Please ask them to contact me, or give me their name and I will contact them. It would be great to expand the network to include both more teachers and more learners.
I am so very grateful to all the founding members, and isn’t it exciting to see what we can put together! If you keep this email you will have all the members' email addresses and you can send out a message to the Corps about any new ideas (UTube? Something at the Dryden Lake Festival?) or questions.

Thursday Night Dinner Special
The Cafe is open late on Thursdays with a dinner special and often a community open house or other event. We have brought back our much requested Pasta Night, so come on in and try the best meatballs and sauce in town!
Service Organization Open Meeting Nights / Community Open Houses
Are you a member of a local service organization or interested in joining one? Members of local service organizations are holding open meetings at the Cafe. All are welcome to join in and learn about these important community organizations from those who know best. These events are held on Thursday evenings -- so be sure to come early for Spaghetti Night
Open Meeting Night is an opportunity for community service organizations to meet at DC3 and open their meetings up to the public. If any service organization would like to promote their mission to the community by hosting an open house at the Café, please contact Charlie Hart at: cwhartjr@gmail.com
CafeSpace Events

Dryden Solutions Meeting, Tuesday 11 May, 7:00-9:00 pm. Dryden Solutions is an informal series of conversations about issues that are important to the Town of Dryden. There is a conversation at the Cafe the second Tuesday of every month from 7-9pm. Different people come each month depending on their interests. There are always refreshments. Good Talk. Good People.
This month: What’s GREEN about Dryden Schools? Dryden Schools are taking the lead in making Dryden the GREENEST town in the region. Come find out how it got started, the accomplishments of the schools (statewide awards!), and what’s in store for the future – in the schools and in our community. Danny Fairchild and Justin DiMatteo from the Dryden Green Team and representatives from TC Solid Waste will share what’s been going on, and then we will talk about the implications for the School District and the Town of Dryden . Recycling and composting can save lots of money on trash fees, and they are good strategies for re-using valuable resources. And that's only the beginning! Share YOUR ideas for an even GREENER Dryden, and help shape proposals for what we should try.
Kripalu Yoga NO LONGER at the Cafe. Brenda D'Angelo's Kripalu Yoga class has outgrown the Cafe space and will henceforth be held in the Dryden Town Hall. For schedules, costs, details and the like please visit http://www.pureandsimpleyoga.com, email Brenda, or call 607-835-6277. Congratulations, Brenda!
Volunteering
Like many not-for-profits, DC3 relies on the vital role played by dedicated volunteers to help promote a collaborative relationship that encourages and develops our important mission to enrich the well-being of our community. We can't do this without you! Please call the café at 844-1500 to volunteer.
